Sioux Falls Favs
Before catching our holiday show on December 7th at the Washington Pavilion, here are a few of my favorite downtown hot spots.
Maribella Ristorante, Trio Jazz Club or Brix Wine Bar - You cannot go wrong with this trio. I list these together because they share a sublime menu, are right across the street from the front door of the Pavilion and - most importantly - they are owned by Riccardo and Marybeth, two of the most hospitable restauranteurs I've ever met. And considering the fact that I've toured in every state in the Union (outside of Washington for some reason) and eaten at thousands of highly rated eateries, that is saying something, people. The decor is wonderful, the service may be best in town, and your night will begin on the right note (See what I did there?).
CH Patisserie - If you follow my socials, you will know I've mentioned this establishment...often. Chef Chris, of Bravo's Top Chef fame, is the mastermind behind this slice of Paris on Phillips Avenue. Their macarons are best in show, their regularly evolving dessert selections are both beautiful and transcendent. Yep, I said it. Transcendent. Go for their Salted Caramel Latte (Is this made with unicorn tears? How is this so good?) and an almond croissant - if you are me. And full disclosure, I don't even love almonds. You've made me a believer Chef Chris.
Pizza Cheeks - In the back of the Hello Hi (a kitschy tiki bar with wonderfully themed island drinks), sits this unassuming counter. Pizza by the slice. Percorino. Hot Honey. This is my kinda place. It's on the expensive side, but worth a taste. I should also mention the pizza at Look's Marketplace (even though this location is not downtown) and of course, Maribella once more. Top 3 in Sioux Falls.
Highball - Before or after the show. This bar reminds me of an upscale NY establishment - without the pretension. My last visit was with my vocal coach. I know, I know. It was one drink. He had some sort of absinthe cocktail with a glass that was smoke-filled? so that you'd smell the scent while you enjoyed the drink. I think I may have messed this description up. But no matter what voodoo is happening here, he talks about it every single time we chat. Every. single. time.
Finally, wander through Falls Park when all the holiday lights are ablaze. I've done this with my girls since they were tots. And it never loses it's magic. Especially if I'm full on Arrabbiata or just finishing my last pistachio macaron.
Oh, I almost forgot! I love the Treasury too - a restaurant in the Hotel on Phillips. Atmosphere for days. Talented bartenders. Adventurous menu and a laid back intimacy.
Your favorites? Let's chat at the show.
